Hypoxis aurea Lour or Star Grass is the Thai traditional plant which has been used to treat acnes, dark spots and blemish. Due to its anti-melanogenesis and anti-oxidant properties, it is often applied as whitening and anti-aging agents for cosmeceuticals. Researchers found that the highest anti-melanogenesis which can increase signs of aging such as dark spots, melasma, freckles and several hyperpigmentation syndromes. Apart from skin lightening effect, it is also locally used among postpartum women. It also has an astringent and toning effect on the womb, promoting proper uterine function and guiding the uterus to contract back to its normal size and position.
